Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA)
The Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) is a semi-autonomous governmental organisation responsible for developing and promoting sustainable tourism in Guyana through collaboration with sister agencies and the tourism private sector in order to maximise local socio-economic and conservation outcomes and improve the travellers’ experience. The GTA is focused on Guyana becoming recognised locally and internationally as a premier destination for protecting its natural and cultural heritage, providing authentic experiences, and maximising local socio-economic benefits.
Through the work of the GTA, in 2024 alone, Destination Guyana secured TWO awards from the Pacific Area Travel Writers Association Awards (PATWA): 1. Destination of the Year: Ecological Tourism Award and 2. Woman Tourism Minister of the Year—South America. The GTA also secured second place in the 4th Edition of the WTM Latin America Responsible Tourism Awards under the category Best Initiatives for Indigenous Tourism and/or Traditional Communities.
